Shasta Promise

Shasta Promise

Every student in Shasta County will graduate prepared for education beyond high school. Those students who complete minimum college preparatory or community college transfer requirements will receive guaranteed admission from all participating institutions of higher education. The expressed goal of the Shasta Promise is to allow every student to earn career technical certificates, transfer to a four-year college or university, and/or have the ability to achieve an advanced degree.

How It Works

Shasta County schools have worked to align curriculum and assessments across the county’s 26 school districts. This ensures that all students, no matter their zip code, are equally prepared for postsecondary education.

  • Shasta’s elementary schools have adopted uniform reading assessments for kindergarten through the third grade.
  •  High schools have strengthened graduation requirements and agreed on common assessments and the same math courses throughout the county.
  • High schools have eliminated numerous courses not linked to college or career readiness, while  retaining sports, music, and art classes.
